Seymour Cresswell Biography
Seymour Cresswell was born in 1950 in Dalkey, County Dublin. After school, he studied law at Trinity College Dublin, where he started his acting career in DU Players. After college, he tried to become a professional actor and not to become a solicitor but lost both battles and followed a career as a lawyer for forty years.
He is an award-winning amateur actor and director.
He has been a member of the Royal Irish Yacht Club since 1973 and is now an honorary life member. He sails Water Wag no. 17, Coquette, (built in 1909) with his son Guy. Seymour inherited Coquette from his father, R.S. Cresswell who was also, in his time, an honorary life member of the RIYC.
Between 1980 and 1998, with Norman Long, Seymour co-wrote nine pantomimes, which were performed once every two years by the Waterfront Players in the waterfront sailing clubs of Dublin Bay and beyond. These shows were rapturously received by undiscerning audiences everywhere.
More recently, Seymour compèred The Waterfront Warblers musical entertainment troupe, singing songs and telling bad jokes.
He no longer works in the law, but divides his time between writing, sailing, gardening, painting and drama.
